McCleary School District Superintendent, Susan Carthum Zetty

Greetings McCleary School District Community,

My name is Susan Zetty, and I am happy to serve as Superintendent for the McCleary School District.  I enjoy working with members of the school district community including students, staff, families, and community members to help improve outcomes for students.  Here is a little professional and personal information about me.

I taught third through fifth grade for 17 years before becoming the associate principal at Sakai Intermediate School on Bainbridge Island.  After three years in that position, I served as principal of Esquire Hills Elementary School in Central Kitsap School District for seven years.  I then spent four years as Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Olympic ESD 114.

One of my core beliefs is that every individual needs to be treated with kindness and dignity. In all of my positions, one of my greatest joys is to work with all kinds of people, and show with every interaction and communication that I value each individual.  As superintendent, I do my best to build open, collaborative relationships in which my words and actions demonstrate that you can trust me at all times.  Part of that trust is following through on what I say I will do, communicating clearly with the board as well as staff and community, and engaging in ongoing growth and reflection.

On a personal note, I have been married for 30 years to my husband Mike. He spends his time publishing multiple editions of a restaurant publication called Coffee News, including four editions in Grays Harbor. We love any time we get to spend in person or on the phone with our three kids: Hannah, who attends graduate school in Virginia, Ryan, who works as a language assistance teacher in Japan, and Andrew, who attends Western Washington University. I grew up in Westport and attended Ocosta School District. My parents live in Aberdeen and are both educators and involved in the community. My husband and I spend a lot of time in Westport, and we love Grays Harbor!

I am committed to helping all McCleary students become happy, healthy, contributing citizens. Thank you for the opportunity to serve the children, families, staff, and citizens of the school district!

Sincerely,

Susan Carthum Zetty
